Siren's Call

For Poppy's February Prompt Thingo

A postcard of sorts

arrived today

from a port far away

penned by my love

...

I fear my love

I will never see

thy sweetness

I will never feel

thy softness

again

As a storm rages

on the horizon

Steer clear

you could try

but sailors of old

know better to try

and steer clear

of the cry

the song of the sirens

folly surely awaits

the folly of adventure

to discover the unknown

terror and lust grow

their eyes and minds

are misty and blissed

the winds as they howl

filling hearts with fear

bring a strange calm

an alluring pull

towards the tempest

the vortex of desire

Give ear, please

to the forgotten

song of the sirens

as they sing to

the melody of

the wind chimes

They rise above

the sandcastles,

spades and buckets

at the water's edge

as they ache for

the souls of

the sailors of old

the brave and the bold

challengers of the oceans

conquerors of the seas

beckoning them

with their guile and guise

with their wanton and lust

for the stories of old

for the legends of old

to the water grave,

as they sing a gentle lullaby

"Come to thy grave,

my weary and wary traveller

Come and do not totter,

come and do not halter

Come to thy grave,

my worrisome and anxious voyager

tell me thy adventures

of the treasures, of the battles

of the storms, of the tempests

oh to hear of your bravery

and of man's ill-gotten treachery

offerings I desire of your odyssesy

offerings I covet of your stories

tell at my welcoming bosom

tell in my warm embrace

feed my desire for knowledge

feed my want for understanding

mortals you be, immortal are we

a life beyond my reach

we thirst for your lifeline

your vitality, and vigor

we thirst for that

which is unknowable, unliveable

fated are we, death wardens are we

settle yourself, rest thy head

on the lap of your desire

Come to me, at journey's end,

come, yes come to me, please

Fear not the reaper's reap,

fear not ol' Death's grip

Rest with me, let me sing

sing you a gentle lullaby

sing you a pleasing melody

let me sing you to the deepest sleep

worry not as the dense blue surrounds

fear not as the blue veil shrouds

pay no heed, give no cry

as thy nails pierce your skin

like the rocks on the rudder

as your blood taints our waters

and you become one with them

welcome an ending

more meaningful

than your start

and lay with us here

in unending rest"
