Singing Your Tune

A Poem on Finding Middle Ground

Recent events in my life have caused me to ponder the art of compromise. Singing each other's tune is one of the most difficult tasks given to anyone to accomplish.

Why? Inherent pride makes loss difficult. The party or parties we must compromise with think too rigidly. Then, there is the lack of trust.

As an acappella vocalist who used to lead choir in school, this is true both literally and figuratively. Thinking win-win, staying calm in the midst of challenging conversations and setting boundaries do aid the process.

Hard as it is, it's possible to stay on key even when others are off. Enjoy this sonnet.

Keys too loose to resound

Black and white, do confound

Hard to ring notes bright and pure

To sing a tune, sharp and sure

Piano keys too proud to play

Black and white, too stiff, will stay

Every movement is too much

Even with the gentlest touch

Calmness keeps the keys at ease

Notes for  one and all do please

Set form and function for the tune

So that everyone can have a boon

Different piano keys to sing one voice

In the middle, grace and poise.
