Silence Might Not Be Golden

But even if you speak you might not be heard...

Silence was the only way she could think of

To express the sad fact

That they were not compatible friends any more.

She had just hoped that things would change

Just enough so that she’d never have to mention it.

Things would just fade away and nobody needed to feel hurt -or rejected.

A message that stated bluntly How she really felt... about a few things ...was supposed to be erased

Instead it went straight to that friend

Unexpected and cruel

She knew then her silence had been damaging

an attempt at kindness ... but it was really a betrayal.

They could have remained friends... but not close ones

and that would have been ok.

She wished she’d taken the chance

To say things in a much gentler way... she was only trying to be friendly and nice in her silence...

But it only made things worse.

She was spending too much time

Making allowances for them

And resenting the fact

That they did not seem do the same for her

How someone makes you feel is how you end up feeling about them

But did they know she valued them?

Really

But she valued herself more

Silence might not be golden
