Re-entering my life, bringing chaos to the calm

You upset everything before you became a balm

A bittersweet reminder of young love abruptly destroyed

Our relationship would interest the likes of Freud

Our status in life is complicated, so our past remains hidden

Each of us dancing around memories that are forbidden

Hours we spend texting, avoiding any mention of the future

Your words heal, sewing my soul back,  suture by suture

Talking of love as if nothing has ever changed

Sometimes you make me feel deranged

You talk like I will find somebody

And yet, I’m not interested in anybody

But right now, you have me confused

Some of your texts leave me totally bemused

There are times you’ve stepped across that line

Raising my hopes that you again want to be mine

But that’s waltzing with hope to be

And just as quickly, you’ve re-friend-zoned me.

Leaving me winded inside the whirlwind you created

With feelings that are utterly conflated

Then, before that emotional loop ends

You mentioned me to your friends

The same ones we grew up with years ago

Making me wonder once again just what we’re trying to do

So could you explain this to me

I would really like to see

Just where do you plan for this to lead

How long is this thread

That connects me to you

Be blunt, or I’ll misconstrue

Tell me just what you want to do

I'd be willing to see where this leads, too
