Sides of Opal

Opal changes in the light, like lives do with time

The sun rays separate the sea covered sand to show its opal cracks, its always been my favorite stone.

The precious weeks where the clock doesn’t chase us and nor do our parents.

The fishing line is caught round my finger, but never meets the cut of the hook, you laugh next to me.

I don’t pay much attention nor do I care, but I know you will,

Tell me you love me again.

Through the smell of thick cigarette smoke, I make out your blue eyes, somewhat changed.

The burn of vodka lines my throat making my voice a hoarse rasp.

You chose her, when I moved on you came back.

I don’t want you to say it, not now, but you will,

Tell me you love me again.

The bell rang for the final time, in fact I haven’t heard it for years.

The clock doesn’t stop anymore, never like it used to by summer’s sun.

At some point it was easy, till it was complicated again,

I don’t want a love back, I want my best friend.

But you don’t know and now I just wish you would,

Tell me you love me again.
