short of

a neighbor

By ⸘jason alan‽Published 2 years ago • 1 min read

stop short of the minority.

no benefits

on this fringe;

the size

of my sizzle alone

is enough to stop short of me.

stop short of an alien,

stopped short of a neighbor

to wrath,

and wrong placing

of my keys,

of any reason whatsoever,

or of leaving you

alone with anything i care about.

stop short of the minority.

beat it out

of me

and i will wail

my unwanted melodies;

which, some of us really need

to hear them

clearly. because i hear the beat.

stop short of authority

in the rebel's head,

boots on the pavement,

the cracked skulls for a few,

for law and order,

for civil and capitol interests.

because what if

all it ever was,

is an idea

that came,

and then left

its mark on the americas

with marches of tears,

and destiny manifestos

with stench so strong

it is papal bull.

stop short of the minority.

no benefits of this brave new world:

the size of ideologic genocide -

the casualties alone -

is staggering

enough to stop short of me.

stop short of an alien,

stopped short of a stranger.

but not everything

that looks so strange

to the observant is just so.

the game is never over,

but living in fear and silence is;

never short again.
