Shipwreck

A Poem

Like a piece of shipwreck, he’s blown to and fro,

Pulled this way and that with nowhere to go.

Titan waves conspire with biting wind and rain

In an endless ocean he’s helpless grain.

Cruelly it drives him on a senseless course

Strangling his cries with brute blunt force.

Then off in the distance he glimpses a light

Though faint it pierces the darkest of night.

With nowhere to go but a watery grave

He decides to face the oncoming wave.

With his body broken but his spirit strong

He faces his fears and paddles headlong.

Keen eyes focus on that faint point of light

Giving him courage to stay in the fight.

Each wave a challenge to man’s strength and resolve

Each wave conquered gives him cause to evolve.

Amidst relentless waves he perceives a thought -

This alluring light can never be caught.

But he’s happy to keep these storms at his back

Content in the thought he’s not a shipwreck.
