She Wishes She Could Tell You
She wishes she could tell you
About the deepness of her pain
How it feels so never-ending
And how at times it overwhelms her so
Leaving her feeling fragile, scared, lost
And desperate for you
For you to call
She wishes she could tell you
How she wants to believe you
When you tell her you really care
But in her heart she knows you have only
Mastered the hollow terms of compassion
That you speak to appease your own guilt for
Consistently turning away from her
She wishes she could tell you
How much it hurts when you never reach out
And you refuse to pick up when she calls
But when you do, you yell and claim you are too busy
And that time gets away and you simply forget
The truth of those words hangs heavy in the air
You have forgotten her
She wishes she could tell you
How broken she feels inside
And about the soul draining effort it takes
To just keep her heart beating
As each empty day bleeds into the next
Like a rushing river of predestined emptiness
Heading toward her eventual existence as dust
She wishes she could tell you
She wishes she could tell you
She wishes you would remember
She is your elderly mother
