Shadows Leading Down

Shadows in the night all around thee, my old friend

soft warnings, they are among us in the pale light

Warnings they come heralding an untimely end

and you see nothing coming and nothing to fight

There wasn't a dotted line when you made the deal

certainly not figuring it was all how it looked

Now the time has caught up, and it feels so real

tried everything to run and even got a flight booked

Things tend to, when least expected, do exactly this

and fight, fight, fight you will, but you can never win

This date was not something that one can miss

as that bright sun lowers, your last night to begin

One more go-round is all you needed

but it's over, and it's time to pay the piper at twelve

Fresh grass on the lawns you never seeded

life caught you as you ran from a trip to hell

Sold it you did, my devil-owned friend

a rack awaits you downstairs

Torturous eternity for you in the end

and you feel the hound's breath as your hair stands on end

Armies of hell await your sweet flesh

and it's past time to regret as you take that last

and final breathe

So enjoy hell my friend, time there doesn't go by fast
