Selfcare and Love

We talk about self-care and love,

As if it’s a commercial,

Treat yourself, soak in a tub,

Like caring for yourself is a product of being superficial.

As if a bath bomb can abolish my underlining scars,

A massage can relax your loneliness,

Buying a shiny new expensive car,

Will give you that sensation of temporary bliss.

Be a consumer, Light a candle,

The smell will linger,

but the power of purchase is intangible,

Even when it's at the press of your fingers.

Because self-care isn't indulgence,

It's not about purchases that will make you feel,

About what you can hold in abundance,

But the time you take for yourself to heal.

It's about taking the obligation out of life,

Stepping back and breathing in deep

It doesn't have to match up to an instagramable hype,

It could be as simple as giving yourself an extra hour of sleep.

It's about taking time for yourself,

Not what you can do to love yourself more,

But about working toward a better mental health,

Instead of purchasing your happiness at a store.

It's about fueling your soul, body and mind,

Instead of limiting what you can eat,

Weight oriented exercise has its own time,

This is a moment for a calm walk with room to breathe.

It’s a connection for you own self-reflection,

A time where you can show compassion for yourself,

Without there needing to have an underlying lesson,

It's about being one with your thoughts of how you are feeling and have felt.

It's about unwinding,

Separating yourself from your daily load,

A release from your grinding,

and focusing on finding what relaxes you most.

It could be taking a hot shower or brushing your hair,

Walking around in nature breathing in the fresh air,

It could be driving and listening to an audio book,

Or wrapped up in a blanket while reading in a nook.

Taking mental vacations from social platforms,

Absorbing any peaceful moments you have,

Dancing to loud music all over you floor,

Or spending time with people who make you laugh.

Taking a little more time to cuddle your pet,

Sitting with a cup a coffee with your favorite view

Exerting your endorphins by making you sweat

or getting crafty with some paper and glue,

Yourself love and care,

Is a place for you to focus on your growth,

Not the kind of where you think you should be,

But where making yourself a priority is your oath.

It's not about the products you buy to amplify your beauty,

Or the indulgence of treating yourself with something new,

It's about liberating your façade, and going off duty,

Taking a few moments to hours to focus on you.

So find what makes your heart feel full,

something to ease you mind,

because these are the things that can make you feel whole,

If you let yourself take the time.

Remember to be kind to yourself,

Reaffirm your own worth in the mirror

loving yourself is the best kind of wealth,

recognize but don't hate yourself for your fears.

We are only human,

in the most complicated beautiful ways,

Let yourself be your number one fan,

and never forget to let yourself play,

Because self-care and Love is a time for yourself,

Where you take time to nourish who you are,

It's never selfish to focus on your own health,

We have to in order to stay charged.
