Schyphozoa

I am an umbrella of the deep;

drifting mushroom of the sea.

Who will be subject to my throes for misjudging me?

I use my eyespot to detect

who and what are worth grazing over with my appendages;

equally graceful and vicious.

Don’t misunderstand me.

Gelatinous, mucilaginous,

about ninety-five percent built of salt and of sea.

I am an enigma,

a reversed life-cycle:

Ephyra,

Medusa,

then back to Planula.

I create out of myself what the sea beckons of me––

more of me

more little offsprings of me!

Mini friends of phytoplankton,

summoned to drift every which way the tide may pull us;

where Mother Moon guides us––

be it maelstrom or cool tropic temperament.

One dusk I may end up washed ashore

for splashing tikes to ooh and ahh at.

Another dusk, in the belly of a Leatherback.

About the Creator

Trinity Stilianessis

I am a firm believer that life imitates art and vice versa. The content I produce is a direct reflection of the world around me: observations through my personal lens. Planet Earth is my muse and life is so beautiful!
