like a tree growing strong
you watered me before I knew
I watered you before we grew
and as the sun shined down
the roots took place too
like a tree standing tall
was your love unwavering
as the wind dispersed between the leaves
my fondness of you began elevating
like a tree so wise
the ancestors live with us
covering our journey
so protected
never rejecting
the knowledge within
like a tree rooted so deep
our hearts interlace
two awakenings combined as one
only something so divine could take place
like a tree
we too will change and grow
individually and together
like the four seasons approaching and leaving
our true colors will show

The difference between light and dark could be as quick and simple as a flip of a switch, the drawing of a curtain, the opening of one’s eyes. It could be more gradual like the slow adjustment of the diaphragm on a microscope, the turn of a planet on its axis, the growing light as you approach the end of a tunnel. A flicker in the dark, a steady glow in the distance, a flash in the night sky.
