my dearest young self,
first of all
thank you
you were too young
to hold the burdens you did
your peace does come
we have a different name now
it suits us better
it is like we are
strong
unpredictable
chaotic
peaceful
neutral
life affirming
sometimes a little dangerous
all the things
we used to think were contradictions
we were too young
too young to realize
they we weren't seeing the full picture
the magic you create
the burdens you bore
so i could thrive
it's taking us a little longer
than the ones we love
but they stayed
they loved us enough to stay
to tell us hard truths
because that's the kind of people you attract
the ones that mattered stayed
and while healing is not linear
and sometimes we measure by the minute
we are on the right track
because of you
because of your strength
so much love and appreciation,
river
