River Stone

A Poem About Change and Mindfulness

By Maria LuisaPublished 7 years ago 1 min read

I am a river stone

Water flows around me with alternating forces.

Sometimes the water feels nice.

But other times it pushes me to places that are unknown to me.

The current gets so strong, that over time it changes me.

I'm getting smaller and smaller

I am no longer a stone, but a pebble

I don't have enough strength to keep me in one place

I now rest on a seashore where big waves of water crash into me

over and over again.

I am no longer a pebble,

I am a grain of sand.

I feel so different and worthless.

What is a grain of sand compared to a shiny river stone?

An oyster gobbles me up,

It's so dark, I feel hopeless time continues, the pressure is killing me,

When is this going to change?

Time goes on and everything feels the same...

Oh, wait there is light, but what is happening?

A hand reaches for me,

I am no longer a river stone.

I am a pearl, a priceless, beautiful pearl.
