Remembering

I remember the first time I saw you walking toward me,

My palms sweaty, the butterflies in my stomach

Then you saw me, and my world changed.

In that instant, time stopped, and I saw my future flash before my eyes.

Now seeing your smile lights up the room, everyone notices how I look at you.

I can’t hide how I feel any longer; you are everything I could have dreamed of,

Loving you is so right, yet you are holding him in your arms.

I look away before you notice me, making sure to avoid the pain.

I start to walk past you, and before I can exit, I feel a hand on my wrist.

Turning, I realize it is you reaching out for me,

You say hi to me, and my heart melts in an instant.

Every ounce of me tries to fight back how I feel about you, but my eyes have already revealed my secret.

I must be dreaming as you lean in and utter the words, “ You are my future.”
