Reflection

Lyrics to my personal recovery

Reflection

Is it hard or difficult,

To look yourself in the mirror,

How many days has it been,

Are you always pointing the finger,

Never wanting to think this is different,

To admit who you really are,

Hiding the dirty secrets,

All the failed commitments,

Would Mom and Dad be proud,

This ain’t you,

You don’t want the world to know.

(Chorus)

Hurting yourself,

With a lifestyle,

You don’t really need,

This disease,

Has its claws in you,

Telling you who to be,

Who your friends are,

And where you’re going to be,

Addicted and held captive,

Never wanting to let you go,

Lying to you,

Using your own voice,

Ain’t it scary,

This isn’t fun anymore.

Setting an example to your kids,

Shouldn’t be so daunting,

Undoing all your past mistakes,

They should see what you wanted,

When you were growing up,

Not seeing their parent in a bad spot,

Instead now they see you,

lifting yourself from the hole you put yourself in,

Remember how you made a promise,

That you’d never be embarrassed,

To ever be in the same spot as your parents,

This is another generation,

With the same curse,

It’s time to break those chains,

And finally be set free.

(Chorus)

Hurting yourself,

With a lifestyle,

You don’t really need,

This disease,

Has its claws in you,

Telling you who to be,

Who your friends are,

And where you’re going to be,

Addicted and held captive,

Never wanting to let you go,

Lying to you,

Using your own voice,

Ain’t it scary,

This isn’t fun anymore.

Know that this life,

Can be more than what you’ve known,

It’s taking accountability for what you’ve done,

Not pushing it under the rug,

It’s about having substance,

And remaining true to who you are,

Not to be on them,

To try to erase who you are,

You can have those things that you always wanted,

That people can’t pay for,

Bad days will come and they will go,

Don’t give in and admit defeat,

Giving up something you worked so hard for,

It gets better.

(Chorus)

Hurting yourself,

With a lifestyle,

You don’t really need,

This disease,

Has its claws in you,

Telling you who to be,

Who your friends are,

And where you’re going to be,

Addicted and held captive,

Never wanting to let you go,

Lying to you,

Using your own voice,

Ain’t it scary,

This isn’t fun anymore.

Self-love shouldn’t be a foreign concept,

Held prisoner in the cells of your self destruction,

Because if you can’t love who you are,

You can’t love who and where you’re going to be,

Hurting others who you love and care for,

Shouldn’t be the new norm,

Lending out a helping hand,

Is what is worth it,

Showing them that there’s light at the end of the tunnel,

This life is full of things we can’t change, but we can change ourselves.

(Chorus)

Hurting yourself,

With a lifestyle,

You don’t really need,

This disease,

Has its claws in you,

Telling you who to be,

Who your friends are,

And where you’re going to be,

Addicted and held captive,

Never wanting to let you go,

Lying to you,

Using your own voice,

Ain’t it scary,

This isn’t fun anymore.

You are more than your worst days,

Love yourself.
