Proposal

Meet me out by the gnarled redbud tree.

The one out by the old blacktop road.

You will hear the sound of more than one bee,

buzzing around branches, blooming so full it's bowed.

I will be waiting for you under its branches

Patiently, I will count the seconds.

You can bet that I will even practice my planches.

I will stay no matter how much my bed beckons.

When you arrive at our rendezvous spot,

I will give you a kiss to seal my love for thee.

I even have an engagement ring I bought,

I hope that you will say yes to me.

Meet me out by the gnarled redbud tree.

Where the bees sound like a million flies.

All you need to bring is your love for me,

And I will give you my proposal as a surprise.

Come near, sit a spell, and listen to tales of old as I sit and rock by my fire. I'll serve you some cocoa and cookies as I tell you of the time long gone by when your Greats-greats once lived.
