Red Flags

They mean less than you think.

They're a funny little thing, you know. Innocent hearts in denial.

"I missed all the red flags!"

No you didn't. You knew better.

He laid them out on a platter for you, neat and organized for you to see.

Those flags slapped you in the face but you ignored them, brushed them aside.

You thought you knew better.

Why? Because this one is different, of course.

Obviously you weren't going to get attached.

It was just a cuddle, just a kiss,

Just that one time you almost said "The L-Word" -

But one turned into many, and those red flags paled into comparison to your burning cheeks when you thought of him.

And now, thinking of your cheeks before, they pale in comparison to your bloodshot eyes.

While you wonder if second chances are worth it, think about this.

All of the second, third, fourth chances you've given....

None of them mattered, but none of that matters

Because this one could be different.
