Reclaimation

le jardin noir

the abandoned church

we had taken the road inundated by vines

to he abandoned hospital on the hill

there, we found a wrecked city

a church poured of perfect stone

its iron cross taller than the trees

a sword pinning it to the earth

hallways of broken ribs and shattered light

empty rooms and tired thoughts

latent in codeine bottles littering the

the elevator hanging cracked apart

a historic bell waiting to rest

in the heart of the new city

dark halls expanded with footsteps

the light still found its way in

every corner of every hallway

nowhere in the city was allowed to be absent of it

the windows smashed long ago

the doors pried open

padlocks broken

all the keys piled by the courtyard

with the burned furniture

never again to be needed

it's sternum ringing with the unfastening

of metal in the wind

we entered knowingly with

arms outstretched and

the trepidation of Noah

fording the black garden
