Reach out and Touch
a small gesture goes a long way
When last did you reach out and touch someone - a pat on the back, a hug or even a kiss?
When last were you touched with care?
We live such busy lives sometimes we forget how important touch is to those we love.
I look around me and see the couples in the cars next to me fighting.
I watch the harassed parents in the mall yelling at their tired children
I see the impatience, the anger the sadness all around and I wonder how much of it would change if people were touched more often.
What would happen if the angry couple held hands as they discussed?
If the mother hugged her tired child
Would the world be a better place, would depression and anger start to disappear?
What would happen if you came home to a hug instead of a warzone?
Children would want to be home, they would feel safe there –
Would the violence, drug and alcohol abuse lessen?
Consider the chain reaction you could start with just a touch.
Your partner leaves home with a hug, they whistle to work, content in the knowledge that someone cares enough to touch them, they are more patient on the roads, with the people at work, knowing they will come home to another hug.
Your children leave home with a hug, go to school feeling safe with the knowledge that they are loved; they grow up confident and happy additions to society.
How much difference would just one touch from a caring person do for the happiness of those around us.
I know that life can be crazy. The people we love irritate us. The people we meet are angry. We have differences of opinion. We do things that hurt others, sometimes unintentionally, but in all of this we should never stop touching each other.
Have you ever thought how much pain and depression you give by withholding touch from those who love us, the rejection they feel?
This in turn is passed on to everyone else they meet
So I request with tears in my eyes -
Please touch those you love.
Value them.
Appreciate them.
Most of all reach out and touch them!
