Rainbow forever
We have in us the connection to the beginning
As I walk on this day,
feel the earth under my feet.
My trousers gettint wet remind of last night’s heavy rain.
The grass, the ground,
all is still wet.
And me barefoot
enjoying the wind in my hair.
My face collects the droplets of rain still glued to the leaves,
Hanging heavy on the branches.
Looking out of the tent
before going to sleep.
I saw lightning rushing
across the sky.
No thunder just lightning then
The deep silence of the sky on making preparations.
When the primal thunder rolled through the sky,
So close to the vivid light
Of the near simultaneous lighting.
The colours were so vibrant and strong.
The sound they made in the wind, was smashing into people's reality.
When the first rainbow lit the sky,
the people heard the promise and they saw
the colours together decorating the daylight hours.
Quietly in their hearts, they took fright.
They started to whisper,
Have you seen, the bow across the blue sky, and
Remember all the rain we had before.
The rain that destroyed some of our homes,
some of our gardens,
pulled up trees.
When the rainbow lit the sky
people listened, selecting how they want to cope with the event.
But they knew that, in the coming winter months,
Food would be scarce.
And this bow of colours was lighting the sky again.
While the first rainbow was still high in the sky,
the first stones were erected,
and new gods were invented,
new prayers were composed.
For the coming winter
when empty bellies needed the consolation of some form of Almighty
to make up for the lack of food.
