Jonah, Ruth
Prophet and Paige
Mother and Sage
Opening the mouth of Plato’s Cave
**
By the casting of lots was he tossed
By grief and time was she lost
**
Naomi insists,
Ruth persists
Orpah remains,
cradling the pain
Venturing with virtue,
this is what hurt you
As with circumcision of skin
One must sever the thought
Sever the thought from the sin
Pain from pleasure
Destruction of Nineveh,
the plan was never
**
Tarrying with tact,
an unfortunate fact
Parasitic penitence,
a ravaging lion
The pipers words
disguised as Zion
**
By the casting of lots was he tossed
By grief and time was she lost
**
Harrowing and haughty; laudy
Right is left ; all is bereft
Barren of reason–
even the reason for the season
Jonah finds refuge; cursing the deluge
Prosper not harm
On this verse
You can mortgage the farm
**
Unto the threshing floor was she wed
Wheat and chaff,
serpents and staffs
Learning from Sarah,
Ruth spared to laugh
For tragedy befell
Like the woman at the well
**
For Boaz and Ruth
Their union became truth
God tethers, man cannot sever
Grace or works
Its both or never,
better together
A widow did he redeem
Chivalrous and gentle did he seem
