Press the Button tonight
Look up at the Starlight
The day that he dreaded,
He hoped that the day,
Would never come his way.
There were just three protocols,
He had to carry out within those walls.
To make that dreaded call,
To press the button just once,
For the last and third protocol.
It was his chance this time,
He was voted in by all,
To press the button for the third protocol.
He was a member of the government,
He was intelligent, so your money was well spent.
The first protocol was to set the stage for the day,
To ensure that everything was in place, ready to play.
The second protocol was to close the door,
As everyone moved on the floor.
It was now the time to implement,
The third protocol with the sentiment.
He was going to make that dreaded call,
To press the button for the third protocol.
“It is midnight”, he announced over the phone,
As he pressed the large red button in his sight,
To switch on the fireworks display in the city that night.
It was the 1st of January yet again,
He did not look forward to a New Year,
Would it be one of fun or one of fear?
There was no way in which one could tell,
As it could be heaven or it could be hell.
He dreaded the 1st of January it is sure,
His heart and mind were quite pure.
He opened the door to step out into the night,
It was time to celebrate after so very long,
The New Year with friends under starlight.
