Someone before you thought they knew me,

built a picture in their head that my words and actions could never prove wrong.

It didn't matter how apparent the hallucination could be,

pixelated, malformed, discolored; they wanted their imagination to be our reality.

You see me crystal clear and accurate,

a perfect opposite making me feel safe and seen no matter what I leave unsaid.

I get to paint my own pictures, to shade, revise, correct inaccurate portrayals,

and I no longer have to wonder if someone really loves me or

if they have a love/hate relationship with their own imagination.
