Petrichor is the name of the scent,

That is released from the ground,

When rain makes its long descent,

To disturb the dirt all around.

By Fredrik Solli Wandem on Unsplash

I sit and listen for the gentle patter of rain,

Turning from TV static to a pit-pat against glass,

I hear it get closer to my terrain,

And splash into the saturated grass.

I look outside my window, to the trees,

I see the blur of raindrops rushing,

The clear globs of water hitting the leaves,

The street drains would soon be gushing.

The hairs on my arms rise,

As the air cools and the clouds descend,

I ignore my skin’s cries,

I am not ready for this to end.

There it is! The smell I have been waiting for,

Earthy, loud, bright, tingling, and sweet,

What a wonderful sensory experience, Petrichor

An honour, an instinct, and a treat!

A/N: This is an entry into the sensory poem prompt from vocal. I decided to go with a ABAB rhyming system for this one! I hope you enjoyed! I really loved adding some sounds and pictures to this one, I love immersing myself in sounds of rain!
