For at the End there shall be Nought to Endure

By C. Rommial ButlerPublished 16 days ago 1 min read
Top Story - June 2024
"Mr. Crowley", by Ozzy Osbourne. This solo written and performed by Randy Rhoads was the best thing to ever come of Crowley's legacy...

“I made the toads hop, the witches skip, and the monkeys dance to the persistent crank of the organ grinder, which played a melancholy tune that falls outside their hearing range. Life is strange, but I am even stranger… ever the stranger.”

“But why? Why create spectacle for its own sake?”

“I once invested my creations with purpose, gave them a meaning supreme; but this just made them mean. I gave them freedom to pursue their own pleasure, but this just made them cruel. I sent them out as stars, and they returned as toads, witches, and monkeys. What was I to do but make them hop and skip and dance in their mad, ugly trance? What was I to do but predetermine the story I once left to chance?”

“But why do you care at all?’

“I vowed I shall endure unto the end.”

“But there is no end!”

Just a smile,

A wile which sparkled

A darkling spark

In the depths of his eyes…

One last chapter in The Book of Lies.

    Loved the last line!!! Bravo!!!❤️❤️💕

  • Excellent job my friend. Your following details help me to catch up the big picture.

  • I did not want to mar the simplicity of the piece with a commentary, but will remark that this connects to Chapter 70 of Aleister Crowley's "Book of Lies" for anyone seeking further reference.

  • But is it a last chapter or was that a lie too, this was great fun

You set the tone with the music. When I read this, I sense something which I can't quite put my finger on; that unsettles me but not overly - it puts me on my guard. It makes me wary, that's the word, of the narrator and his motives.
