Paper Hearts

Poem

Her paper heart melts in the rain

And moonlight masks the pain

She wants to run away

But he’s begging her to stay

She can’t say no, she can’t disappear

Another day of paralyzing fear

The voices rise and fists will fall

And time slows to a crawl

The clock on the wall says 2am

She sits and watches him condemn

Bruises will appear by morning

She never heeds his warning

Being made of paper is rough

But now she’s had enough

So this is not where she’ll stay

As the rain washes her away

heartbreak
