Out Of Order

The human mind is complex

Emotions are difficult to express

No one knows who is putting on a facade

hiding behind a smile so convincing

that they believe their lies

Putting their pieces back together

even though still broken on the inside

Forcing themselves to act ‘normal’

To be happy and carefree

*

Saying their rehearsed lines

“I am doing just fine”

so many times

that it rolls off the tongue so smoothly

that they don’t have to try

*

Depression is real

How do we help if they don’t say a thing?

How can one tell there’s a weakness

when the outside appearance is pristine?

*

What if we could wear signs

that said more than words could convey

How about one that says “out of order”

meaning that we are ‘down’ and not ok

*

We can’t fix depression in one day

but if we all wore signs, there would be no shame

We could step in and help

Because we are all broken in different ways

...
