We acknowledged the beauty
From the shelter of window
Observing the brilliant colors
From heated seat,
Ignoring the truth
That beauty was achieved
Through change,
A darkening sky
And creeping winter,
The cold months of
Our undoing
Leading to the strength to fall
From a tree
Not meant to carry us-
We worshiped
The brilliant reds and oranges,
Creating a divine scene
Upon the forest floor,
And turn with disdain
From the mess we created
Upon our canvas
With the choices we were forced
To make-
We wished for Autumn,
The changing of the seasons
But loathed our own changes,
Our alterations-
Never knowing that we
Are the earth
And the earth is us.
