Our Portrait Of Love

Needs to be re-drawn

I asked you to draw me a portrait of love

But in this one you’ve shown I’ve no place,

Look closely at the picture and the frame

Not what I imagined, it’s a battered disgrace.

***

This portrait paints a picture of heartbreak

Along with a mural of our pain and tears,

Looking closely you’ll see an image of hurt

And shows off in fine detail, all of our fears.

***

I’m lying here studying this picture of ours

And I’m waiting, ever so patiently for you,

You see this picture is missing a piece

In this portrait of love that you drew.

***

I’m begging and praying that you’ll return

Bringing your pencils, without any delay,

Together again we can fix up the frame

And you can re-draw the portrait our way.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
