Once Loved

no longer

She sits

and leisurely

stirs her coffee

as her mind

is entangled

in the pages

of her book.

******

No one matters

in that room

no one dares

to interrupt

the sanctity

of her personal

time with herself

******

One who

once loved her

and knew that

she once loved him

dared to enter

her sacred space

without permission

without head

touched her shoulder

hoping to speak

kind words of love

to her once again.

******

Her eyes met his

and the wound

ripped open

with shards

of her soul

stabbing the

scars he was

so willing to give

so unwilling

to see as

he looked upon her

with a dashing smile

confidence or vain

******

With a firm

stance of a warrior

she peered

at the loathsome

being standing

before her

as one who

expects to be forgiven

one who

expects to be heard

one who thinks

there maybe a chance

if he just

could only

give her a hug

******

He stinks

of greed

He stinks

of pride

He stinks

of betrayal

as he approached

the woman's

sacred space

he knew

her love waned

from her soul

and he saw

that he

no longer

remained with her

******

His eyes

darted left

then right

as he continued

his advance

her gaze

held steady

on him

causing him

to pause

and stop

to think

as her eyes

didn't blink

but grew dark

and burned

his soul

******

He squandered

years of love

to fuel

his pride

relished in

his vanity

for he thought

she would

always be

there for him

when he

wanted her

to be

******

He called

her name

and no

reply came

from her

sweet lips

he body

stiffened and shifted

in her chair

on that day

******

No hello

no hug

just a glare

that said

"just let me be"

because she knew

He was okay

with causing

pain in her heart

he never

considered how

expensive he was

to her well-being

because he never

took in account

the cost

of his actions

on others

around him

******

He just thought

He was so

valuable to her

that she

would forgive

and forget

his dastardly deeds

so vain

she thought

so weak

he remained

in her darkened

eyes and mind

that he himself

was rewarded with

******

She closed

her book

her mind

her soul

and her body

to him

and hugged

herself with

her woolen coat

and brushed

past him

and left

the man

she once loved

behind

alone

with himself

she whispered

I wish

you well

I wish

you healing

I wish you

understanding

of who

you are

and who

I am

the one

who once

loved and believed

in one who

didn't believe

in the kind

of love

she gave

heartbreak
