Ode to Our Fathers.

A simple free verse poem about those who were instrumental in the birth of the American nation, "Ode to Our Fathers" considers some of the freedoms we can enjoy as citizens - despite the failures and "human aspect" of our predecessors.

Sometimes broken and flawed, oft discouraged and dismayed -

Yet willing to find within self a reason, a way, to endure.

Every one challenged, scorned, or betrayed

With threat of death, striving for a free life and to precure

For those who came after, self-governance and liberty.

Counting their own lives worth less, they sought a means

with the blood shed from their veins...

To walk a path of love and freedom with kin.

Creating this: a place of wonder and discovery to live in.

Imperfect men imagining a perfect nation,

Where all could improve in circumstance and station.
