Ode to a Shelf
Memories, treasures, and all we hold dear.
O sturdy shelf on mine wall
Chaos and clutter beneath thee does fall
On thine surface treasures from far and near
Tales of word, Foucault and Shakespeare
*
Thine shape yet will vary
Shifts, contorts for all that you carry
Set within our fortress, lining our walls
Rooms, spaces, and so many halls.
*
Wicked items and beloved ones too
Thou doth not judge what shall go on you
Worked endlessly, tirelessly, thankless
Moving space within space, endless
*
Edges sharp and sturdy in form
A plane in time wrapped and torn
Forgotten until not
Neglected until bought
*
Only time reveals your fate
You hold and hold until it's too late
Your wall gives way, or supports do decline
Perhaps too much, a jump from a feline
*
Our treasures you hold, our memories you keep
For nothing you ask, nothing you seek
O shelf, O shelf, aligned and true
Your beauty, your duty, we honour of you

I actually wrote about the exact same topic! A very different and interesting tangent here, sir!
