Oceana
My tender Oceana laid down her head
Her weight a sweet burden of delight.
Her skin as fragrant as the perfume
Of angels, sent down from heaven
The sweetest of all scents.
Water spun round the sides of the boat
Like seahorses rocking tipsily on frothy waves
While the sun on both water and sky
Painted fiery gold and rosy pink swirls.
I sang in her ear an ocean lullaby
A song of love and tender care
Then as my heart drank in her love
Her baby cheek she lifted with a sigh
And gently laid against my own.
And in that perfect pearl of time
So wondrous fair and rare
I knew my grandchild’s special love.
A gift from soul to soul it stays
Deep in my heart, forever mine.
