Two poems about night demons

The night yawns open,

Swallowing me whole

Sweet sleep broken,

Nightmares on patrol.

Nocturnal demons haunt

Harnessing my fears

Exploited for their taunt,

Weeping silent tears.

Ghosts of the past appear

Ancient history revealed

They laugh and they jeer

Exposing the concealed.

Dark, vanquished by dawn

Night terrors derail

Turmoil dead and gone

Demons never prevail.

Clock ticking in the silence of her room

Heart pounding as she awaits her doom,

Demons come at night, stealing her sleep,

Digging up the memories she buried deep.

Nightmare evasion as her brain screams,

She misses the days of unpolluted dreams.

Strongs arms envelop her as her fear forms

Shelter from her brain’s pervasive storms.

Nocturnal demons feed on her terror and fear

She’s unreachable with her love, holding her near

Retreating, they leave her in the refuge of his love

He never lets her sink low, always lifts her high above.
