My One Objective

Every day is a fight

Every day is a challenge

I get up every morning

With a smile on my face

And it is a real smile

A true smile

But not a natural smile

It takes effort

It takes thought

It takes work

Shouldn’t happiness be effortless?

Shouldn’t living come naturally?

Why,

Why get up every morning?

Why live through every day?

Why withstand a lifetime?

If all it is,

Is trying and working towards

Happiness

Why suffer through every day?

Trying so hard

To accomplish a task

That shouldn’t even require my labor?

To everyone who’s happy, smiling face

Is an effortless habit

I am envious

I am jealous you can work towards other goals

But for me,

I have only one ambition

And it takes up all my time

All my life, it seems

So, wish me luck

Hope that one day I’ll get there

One day I’ll be like you

Because some days, this one simple objective

Seems so pointless

So obsolete
