I love you, happy as a day
That spread its wings around a flower.
Could I be happy in every way,
With every passing hour--
I’d count the moon-beams in your eyes,
The sun’s rays in your smile;
The snow’s bliss in your pearly teeth,
The lark’s voice you aspire;
Your golden hair that lights the day,
Your eyes that fill a sky--
There’s nothing that should make me
Turn away, or pass you by.
The autumn’s in your pensive mood,
The winter your sobriety.
Spring is in your jubilance
And summer in your piety.
A word from you can pierce the night,
A look can silence grief.
Compassion’s in your slightest sigh,
A nod ensures relief.
I love you, happy all the day,
In every thought or mood.
You always have, and ever will--
Be my one true love.
