My Living Contradiction

Poems from the Lonely Abandoned

She liked the colour yellow,

And a shot of brandy in the morning.

She wore the same oversized black jacket,

That she had owned her whole life.

She spent her days saving lives,

And her pay on charities.

She listened to the same six heavy metal songs,

On her broken phone’s playlist.

She recited positive affirmations,

And meditated in the evenings.

She made it a point to never smile in greeting,

It was far too cheerful.

She always gave you a hug when saying goodbye,

Just in case you needed one.

Yes, she was a living contradiction,

But she was mine.
