A Poem

Moxie the Snowman

An adventurous old soul

Who was Frosty’s

More handsome

More intelligent

Older cousin

Knew how to

Travel from the

North to the South Pole

Without ever melting

He’d learned the secret

Many years ago, and swore

He’d never share when

He was taught but

Of course, he showed

Mother Combs one year

When they traveled

Together in their

Younger years

But everyone knows

Mother Combs

Can keep a secret.

*

When Moxie

Was at rest,

He sat and

Slept on a bed

Lined with

Pine boughs and

Christmas baubles

Dressed in a scarf

He doesn’t need

With a top hat

Given him by Santa

He’d been known

To bust out juggling

His Christmas baubles

Singing to all who will

Listen to him that

Santa is coming to town

The elves loved him

More than they

Loved Frosty so

They made Moxie a

Gold-plated nose to

Wear instead of a carrot

That would need to be

Changed out as it rotted.

Moxie had been everywhere

He’d drawn so many friends

To him, in all his travels

But what Moxie liked to do

The best was to sit outside

With you and listen to the

Sound of old Mother Combs

Tell stories and tales of

Far away and long ago

While the snow gently

Falls in the still of the night

Come near, sit a spell, and listen to tales of old as I sit and rock by my fire. I'll serve you some cocoa and cookies as I tell you of the time long gone by when your Greats-greats once lived.
