moths

in night’s dark blanket

when all are asleep

I emerge into

a moth anew

I fly by moonlight

past trees, houses, and streets

looking for cool puddles

a short life to have

until then I found

something so beautiful

words failed to describe

what my eyes had found

so bright so blooming

these wings can’t help

closer and closer to this

what I cannot deny

the feeling of warmth

inescapable and ever so desirable

I leave to return

again, and again

one night I found

the light went out

though disappointment inside

there are always more lights around

I don’t know what it was

surrounded by other moths

who were just like me

just wanting to survive the night.
