Mother Moon

Poetic Letter

By CadmaPublished 11 months ago 2 min read

Dearest Moon,

You who wear silver wisdom upon your skin,

You who pull the tides and cradle the secrets of women

I write to you with reverence,

a humble apology from a child of your light

who has lived too long by the ticking of a man-made clock.

Forgive us, luminous mother,

for abandoning Moses Cotsworth’s dream…

Thirteen months to follow your rhythm,

To honor your measured grace through the sky’s slow breath.

They chose the Gregorian cage instead,

Trading your logical cycles for squares and deadlines,

Forgetting the pulse that beats in salt and blood,

in the womb and wave alike.

Yet…still you glow.

Still, you move oceans and hearts alike.

Still, you whisper through the veils of night,

Calling us to remember the ancient balance

Darkness cradling light,

Light softening the dark.

I see you, Moon

I see you. Mother.

In every curve of Chang’e’s story,

Her longing drifting through the stars

like the scent of mooncakes in autumn air.

Each bite a prayer,

Each crumb a promise

that we have not forgotten you entirely.

And oh, how you love the Sun

Your patient dance, your luminous devotion,

the way you rise when he rests,

the way you carry his warmth in your reflection.

I understand this now.

For I, too, have found my Sun

My Hou Yi; if I dare be allowed to say

and through your example, I have learned

that even distance can be devotion,

and even darkness can glow.

You are the pulse beneath our skin,

The rhythm of womanhood itself

Our inner tides shifting with your moods,

Our strength born from your mystery.

In your phases, I see my own becoming:

The waxing of confidence,

The waning of fear,

The fullness of love,

The rebirth of light.

So I write to you,

Ancient mirror of soul and sea,

to say I remember.

I remember what it means to move with you

to be both shadow and shimmer,

Both still and unstoppable.

And if humanity will not return to your time,

then I will.

I will live by your rhythm,

love by your tide,

and dream by your eternal glow.

With devotion,

Your earthly daughter.
