Moon Light and Bare Feet
I see you sitting in the moon light
Your feet bare and toes digging into the sand and dirt
Along the banks of the Green River
I watch you deeply inhale the musty odor
Of the tumbling water
Making its way to Campbellsville
And the smell of slightly decaying vegetation
Floating just out of reach of the current
Along this 384-mile tributary of the
Ohio River flowing through Kentucky
Watching you like this
In your true element
Always takes my breath away
You so loved the water
I see your lips gently curl in
A grin of such bliss and joy
As you stand up and suddenly
Run into the river and
Arch into a beautiful dive
For a moment my heart pounds in fear
I cannot swim and I always dread that you will not surface
But you always do
You always come back
You always come back to me
Your soul always finds me

Hello there! I just wanted to let you know that I share your poem here: https://vocal.media/poets/stories-you-should-read-today-part-1
Just beautiful. Well done
That was a beautiful little movie playing out in my head. My Green River runs through Wyoming, Colorado and Utah, but I hope to see the Green River country in Kentucky one day, too. A wonderful poem, Julie!
This is such a beautiful poem! Thank you for sharing!
