Monochrome Morning

A Prarie Winter Day

Photo is mine

Frost-crusted trees sparkle against the never-ending sky,

A billion tiny points of light, piercing grey velvet

Backlit by the promise of a new day.

Foreboding.

A foretelling of Nature’s impending fury.

Photo is mine

The morning shows no colour,

A monochromatic symphony of frozen slumber,

Beautiful in its simplicity.

My heart warms at the sight,

As my body shivers against frigid air.

Photo is mine

Time and space suspended,

Fixed for the briefest of moments,

As I drink in the unlikely splendour,

Becoming one with the many shades of grey.

Loving the unloveable,

At least for a while.

.................................................................................................

I've never been a huge fan of winter, but there was something so beautiful in the simplicity of the hues of white and grey that morning. Frost covered everything and the grey sky threatened snow. As I stood there, in the cold, I was awestruck and compelled to snap a few pictures and to write this poem.

Great poem and images. I especially loved the photo after the first stanza. I could look at it all day. Thanks for sharing.

  • I am a fan of winter, but still enjoyed every bit of this, even that sense of impending dread, lol.

Oh, I just love this. I adore the phrase, "A billion tiny points of light, piercing grey velvet" and then becoming one with the grey. So gorgeously written and I love the photos you provided. 💗
