Melanin Beauty

By Flowerchild

What the hell did we do to you, why does our melanin beauty annoy you?

Is it the hate that you were born into, or is this just the person you grew into?

I feel sad for you, as ignorance is not an excuse for the hate that you produce

You wanna kill us because you envy us; you wanna relate to us, but you can't get past your hate for us. You don't understand the strength of the melanin ancestry within us.

You degrade us because you're envious, deep down inside you, wanna be us.

Our glowing melanin skin, the skin you wanna be in, you tan to be darker, closer to our melanin

When you walk past, I'll grab my bag and shudder in fear, I don't know what you're capable of, so consumed with envy as if it's trendy, yet so unfriendly

Those lip and butt injections, those braids and dreads in your hair, you dare to wear as if we shouldn't care.

So when you see us, stop your judgemental stare, it's so unfair, are you even aware or do you even care?

And stop coming for us when you're trying to mimic us, or is it an automatic impulse that you must learn to adjust?
