The First Dream I Remember

Half cut in fever pitch

with verdant eyes and a smile so wide it glides right through me

you stride around the beer-stained glass that's half full across our street

with your mermaid's mane of angel hair made from ten shredded wheat

and you lift me up

like the trophy cup

and bounce me on match-day glad tides

my pink bonnet all tootsie cute against the summery blue skies

i'm as light as air

i float away

into marmalade highs

tethered by your sandy hair

my heartstrings in disguise
