In the glow of luminescent screens,
We find a world beyond our means.
A flickering dance of light and sound,
Where imaginations know no bounds.
Reality blurs as stories unfold,
In vivid colors, brave and bold.
Heroes rise and villains fall,
In this ever-changing television hall.
From sitcoms to dramas, reality shows,
We watch as the story grows.
Each character etched in our mind,
Their struggles, their triumphs, their kind.
But amidst the laughter and the tears,
Do we lose sight of what truly appears?
For behind the screen, a world unknown,
A mirror to our hearts, our own.
So let's not be blinded by the glare,
But seek the truth that's hidden there.
In the flickering light, let us see,
The reflection of you and me.

Reaching Out
I promise her. I'd do anything for her. She's my mom. Even as Lanie and Deanna are flying home, Mom is scrappy fighting dying. She lays too still in that too-big bed with all the toasty white hospital blankets, in the south tower, at the broad end of a long slow-turning corner that delivers me again to her private room with the view she can't see through, with the beeping that tells us nothing new, and all these ice chips she can't swallow, and a flood of well-intentioned nurses who cannot do a damned thing all the same.
