Lovesick Lament
~A villanelle

I’m slipping—losing track of things you said
I’ve never been a fan of long goodbyes
Sometimes I think it’s better that you’re dead
.
Oh, take me back—entwined with you in bed
To tenderness of touch, ecstatic sighs
I’m slipping—losing track of things you said
.
A mad girl chasing ghosts within her head
I cannot let you go—I'd rather die
Sometimes I think it’s better that you’re dead
.
One day I tried to join you—how I sped
toward untimely darkness, ill-devised
I’m slipping—losing track of things you said
.
because my mind’s all muddled, dulled on meds
I’m glad you cannot see me in this guise
Sometimes I think it’s better that you’re dead
.
I keep you safely stowed within my head
My darling, though you’re dimming, still—I try
I’m slipping—losing track of things you said
Sometimes I think it’s better that you’re dead
