this is a goodbye to who we once were

young, dumb and in love, without a care in the world

we decided forever and raised up two little girls

then we split, empty nest, boy how the time flew

our parents are gone and the girls have grown up

all alone in a world that was not meant for us

lessons in loss, now we're paying the cost

would we have changed it if we'd had a clue?

two seperate houses with totes full of memories

not so gently used hearts and their ravaged accessories

mirrored illusions of how things were going to be

instead it seems we are just muddling through

so we bury love in satin on soft bed of red roses

sink it in the river of the what if's and supposes

love has a fatal flaw with no real clear diagnosis

raising a final toast and well wishes we'll make do
