Love As It Were

All Over

Love

as it were

deep in the thralls of our hearts

no stain lasts as long

this song permeates our skin

within seconds

our minds touch red mercury

beating with the blood

of a thousand years

fighting to belong

fighting to survive

it was never easy

rainbows and puppies

who doesn't love puppies?

unicorns and chocolate sweets

who can resist?

But have we become numb

with the drum

that Romeo and Juliet beat?

'Twas fear, not love

bewtwixt the pen and the ink

in Shakespeare's hand

that people would be slaves

to romanticized perfectionized

rose-hued eyes

caught in the web of our own lies

of wanting something so hopeful

so powerful

we are lulled into the humming tune

of love having no pain

no anger

never rain, always shine

no dirt, a clean time

Reality crashes into our lives,

showing the mess no longer disguised.

Love, as it were,

hurts and prods at our flaws.

No plan can trap Love.

It makes its own.

We look above

and our minds are blown.

Showing this Love

down here on the ground

all around and in our scars.

Our hearts know the truth.

Yet, they always yearn,

yearning for Love.

Love.

As it were.
