A Poem

I retraced my steps to find you, but you still weren’t there.

At least, not in the way I remember.

The version of you I remember would never have made me feel less than human,

the you now, only reminds me of my flaws and punishes me for them.

You flaunt the perfection that is your slice of life while I am still settling for the scraps and making do with them.

It shouldn’t have to be a competition. I don’t want to participate in this game.

I’m still trying to find the right answers for everything to please you,

but I will always wonder,

how did we get here?

and how can we go back to what we used to be?
